Before you ring

Five questions, answered the way they get answered

What is the $95 service call?

It covers the visit and the whole diagnosis — instruments on the appliance, the fault identified and explained, and a single price for the repair. Approve the repair and the $95 comes off that price. Decline it and you have paid for a diagnosis, with nothing further owed.

Do you work on the older professional ranges?

Yes. Burners, igniters, spark modules, thermostats, hinges and door seals are all serviceable on the older bodies, and the mechanical parts of those ranges tend to outlast their electronics. Where a board is genuinely obsolete you will be told before anything is dismantled, not after.

My oven runs cold by about twenty degrees. Is that a fault or a setting?

Both are possible and they are told apart in ten minutes. The sensor is measured cold and at heat; if its resistance has drifted, the oven is honestly reporting a temperature it is not reaching. If the sensor reads true and the cavity still runs low, the element or the door seal is losing the heat instead.

The mill-village kitchens are tight. Can a range still be serviced in place?

Almost always. Most of the work happens at the front — burners, igniters, control panel, oven door — and a range only needs to come forward when the fault is behind it. Where it does, we say so first and agree how it comes out before anything is moved.

Which towns are on the round?

Andover Center, Shawsheen Village, Ballardvale, North Andover. Anywhere adjacent, ask on the call — you will get a yes or a no rather than a maybe.

The machine started tripping the breaker halfway through a wash. He isolated a leaking heater instead of blaming the house wiring, replaced it, and tested the circuit before he left. Tidy work in a tight corner.

Both compartments were slowly warming together, which had me worrying about the compressor. It was a matted condenser and a fan struggling to turn. Cleaned, new fan, and it pulled back down overnight.

Compact brick row kitchen with the range wedged against the old chimney breast. The griddle was stone cold while the burners were fine. A failed relay on the board. Cooking again that afternoon.
